The Residence Hall Association (RHA) serves as a governing body for the Regional Councils and supports all campus residents and the residential experience. RHA improves the residential experience of each on-campus student through advocating for their voices, providing opportunities for leadership development and personal growth, and building a community in which all students can feel at home.
The mission of RHA is to represent and support residents by fostering a welcoming, safe, and diverse community through leadership opportunities, advocacy, and programs/events.
The purpose of RHA is to:
- To act on the needs of students living in University Housing, by representing and conveying the needs and problems of those living in University Housing to HDS, RCs, and hall staff members.
- To promote the Regional Council System and to increase the awareness of its services and resources available to the students.
- To support and serve as a positive role model in the CSU community.
- To serve as a resource for social and educational programming and co-programming.
- To actively participate in and contribute to the Intermountain Affiliation of College and University Residence Halls (hereinafter known as IACURH) and the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (hereinafter known as NACURH).
- To collaborate with the CSU chapter of National Residence Hall Honorary (hereinafter known as NRHH) to fulfill the joint missions and provide a wide range of opportunities for CSU residents.
Senate meetings are open to the public and are held on Mondays at 6:30 pm in the Senate Chambers of the Lory Student Center.
At these meetings, RHA discusses issues and business impacting campus residents and the community. If you are interested in learning more about what is happening on campus and in the residential buildings, come to a RHA meeting!
RHA also helps fund programs and events for Resident Assistants, Community Coordinators, Regional Councils, and Registered Student Organizations. Need funding? Check out our RHA Bills and Funding Requests page!
What does RHA do?
RHA meets weekly during the academic year, with the exception of the last week of each semester and the week after returning from a conference. RHA hosts life-skills workshops, advocacy programs, social events, and supports programs and initiatives that benefit the residential experience.
Once a month, RHA also sees bills submitted from Community Assistants, Regional Councils, and Registered Student Organizations, which are legislative pieces for requesting funding for campus events or initiatives.
RHA has a strong focus on residential campus advocacy, so we also see submitted Resolutions from various campus organizations and offices seeking for support for large campus projects or initiatives. Resolutions are not funding requests, but rather, are ways that other organizations or campus stakeholders request to add RHA, as the body that represents residents interests and needs, as a supporter of the initiative or project. RHA is a space for residents to voice their concerns about issues in their residential buildings or communities and share ideas and feedback for ways to improve the residential experience. RHA listens to resident needs and calls for advocacy and works to address those concerns, whether directly or in partnership with Housing and Dining Services as able.
Finally, RHA sends interested members and residents to attend regional and national conferences three times a year, covering all conference costs in collaboration with NRHH.
